Calculation and allocation of tolerances by the method of tangents

Abstract

A new method is suggested for calculation of tolerances in the case of normal distribution of parameters. The method is based on alignment of the tangents to the normal operation domain and to the ellipsoid of the tolerance area. The method ensures high accuracy of calculations and can be used when dealing with many-element models. Application of the method to setting the absolute and relative deviations of parameters is considered. Expressions for deviations with a maximum area of the tolerance domain are presented. Some iterative algorithms are used for accounting the output function nonlinearity at calculation and allocation of tolerances.
